What are the meninges?

The meninges are indeed the protective layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Composed of three distinct layers—the dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater—they serve crucial roles in both protection and supporting the central nervous system. The dura mater is the outermost layer, providing a tough, protective barrier.
